Janice Smith, formerly a 13 year old Jamaican country girl, is now Commander Janice Smith of the US NAVY DESTROYER – THE USS OSCAR AUSTIN . She is the first Jamaican born to command a US Navy Destroyer, and only the second black woman to become a commanding officer in the US Navy.

If any STATHS Graduate is wondering if your Jamaican education is adequate to allow you to compete with, and attain the same levels of achievement as those born in the so called “First World Countries”, rest assured that it has been proven and demonstrated over and over that it is not where you came from but how big you dare to dream. Many Jamaicans, some who hailed from the deepest recesses of the Jamaican countryside, people who grew up without the “luxuries” of piped water or electricity in their homes, have not been handicapped by their humble beginnings. In fact, it could be the driving force that motivates them to provide for themselves and their offspring an abundance of what they lacked early in life.

Thanks America for continuing to be the “Land of Opportunity”. With all the criticisms leveled at you and your imperfections, you are still the country with the most “perfect union”. Immigrants from the four corners of the world still make you their number one choice to relocate to .

GOD BLESS AMERICA
